The department of pharmacy practice was established in the year 2016 to conduct Doctor of Pharmacy or Pharm.D a postgraduate professional course of six years introduced by Government of India and Pharmacy Council of India in 2008. It provides candidates with the skills and knowledge of various practices carried out in clinical and community programmes. The Department has trained staff with adequate number of computers and broadband facility. The department supports the needs of the physicians as well as patients by providing information about medication therapy, drug information, drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, patient counseling, health surveys, health checkup and community program. The syllabus of Pharm.D provides the students with an in-depth knowledge of the world of pharmaceutical sciences. The syllabus focuses on core subjects throughout its five-year academic duration with an internship training of one year. After completing this degree, the students can work in the following positions in India such as Clinical Pharmacist, Hospital Pharmacy Director, Hospital Staff Pharmacist, Medical Writer, Pharmaceutical Advisor, Medical Safety Physician and Drug Safety Associate. Government Agencies in India in which candidates can work are Government Hospitals, Pharmacovigilance, Staff Selection Commission, CRPF, Government Colleges & Universities and Sports Authority of India.

FACILITIES IN THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Pharmacy Practice is collaborative with Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubli, which is a very well-known tertiary care teaching hospital recognized by Medical Council of India. The Department has well established drug information and patient counseling centre. It has standard software packages such as SPSS-20, GraphPad Prism for data analysis and Micromedex.
